Biography
Ezzam Rahman holds a Diploma in Fine Art Sculpture from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, but has since expanded his practice to include other disciplines, such as installation art, and performance. His works, though varied in medium and presentation, deal with notions of the self, driven by aspects of love, joy, loneliness, deceit, and loss.
In addition to receiving the National Arts Council Georgette Chen Scholarship in 2002, Ezzam was appointed to represent Singapore at the 1st ASEAN Cultural Week in Cambodia that same year.
Ezzam is also a member of two Singapore-based non-profit arts societies – Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (APAD, Association of Artists of Various Resources), and The Artists Village.
Artist Statement
EZZAM RAHMAN is a practicing artist and an accidental producer graduated from LASALLE SIA College of the Arts, with a Diploma in Fine Arts, Sculpture, 2003. As an artist, he has participated in numerous local and regional group exhibitions / festivals and collaborated with local theatre companies such as The Singapore Repertory Theatre. He is a recipient of the National Arts Council, Georgette Chen Scholarship Award, 2002 and was appointed to represent Singapore to Cambodia as a visual artist at the 1st ASEAN Cultural Week Festival in the same year. Though Ezzam is trained as a sculptor, he is most comfortable with installation art and performance art. He’s works varies with its choice of medium, concepts and strategies of presentation. Ezzam’s works deals with the notion of self – emotion – sexuality and are inspired by the elements of love, pain, hate, joy, loneliness, lie, death; these are just some of the many elements that create his practice.
He is also a member of two local non – profitable arts societies, APAD; Association of Artists of Various Resources and The Artists Village. Ezzam was also recently appointed to curate the 33rd Annual APAD Exhibition, “Kampong” at The Malay Heritage Centre. His works have been featured and installed at CK Tangs, Bang and Olufsen and Raffles City Shopping Centre. His past performance pieces includes “The little Bird” series at the grand opening of ArtyFakt Gallery 2005, Episode 5 2006 and Fetter Field 2006/07. He recently went to Jogjakarta, Indonesia for a performance art festival, “Chaos Dab!”
His past collaboration video works includes “Demam Jantan; All for a guy” that was showed in Thailand “3rd First Frame Festival” and Indonesia “4th Q! Film Festival”, “Miss_Take”, “Adam Up There”, “Apa Khabar Orang Kampung”, the quirky “Forgotten Merlion”, the ever controversial short film ‘Ruber’ where he co-directed it. Ezzam was also selected as one of the directors for the MDA Panasonic Digital Film Fiesta 2006 under the selected Open Category where he acted, directed and produced “Reflections of Insanity”.
